The actor known for his role as the eldest son in the 1990s sitcom "Home Improvement" finds himself in legal trouble once again.
According to Breitbart News, Zachery Ty Bryan, who played Brad Taylor alongside Tim Allen’s lead character, was arrested and charged with second-degree domestic violence in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after allegedly assaulting the mother of his child.
The incident occurred on Thursday when Bryan allegedly punched the victim multiple times in the face and placed her in a chokehold, causing her to fear for her life. The Myrtle Beach Police Department took Bryan into custody, and he was held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County before being released on Friday night after posting a $10,000 bond.
This latest arrest marks Bryan's third domestic violence-related incident in recent years. His previous encounters with law enforcement include a July 2023 arrest in Eugene, Oregon, following a physical dispute with an unnamed woman. That case resulted in two counts of assault in the fourth degree, with one charge ultimately dismissed through a negotiated resolution.
Bryan's legal troubles extend back to 2020 when he was arrested for an altercation with his girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, in Eugene, Oregon. During that incident, police found Bryan sitting outside their apartment while Cartwright sought refuge in a neighboring unit. The actor was accused of attempting to strangle her and preventing her from calling emergency services.
In a subsequent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bryan attempted to minimize the severity of the 2020 incident. He stated:
We didn't even really get that physical. We got really loud. We were screaming and because we were in a town home that had [thin walls], everybody could hear.
If convicted of the latest second-degree domestic violence charge in South Carolina, Bryan faces significant legal consequences. The potential penalties include up to three years in prison and a fine ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 under South Carolina law. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 28.
The actor's recent arrest has drawn attention to his post-"Home Improvement" life, which stands in stark contrast to his earlier career as a child star. Bryan played Brad Taylor, the oldest son of Tim Allen's character, throughout the show's successful run in the 1990s.
The case has also highlighted the recurring nature of domestic violence allegations against Bryan, with three separate incidents now spanning multiple states and involving different victims. Each case has resulted in varying degrees of legal consequences, from negotiated plea deals to pending charges.
The 43-year-old actor-turned-producer's latest legal troubles come after avoiding significant jail time in his previous cases. His 2023 Oregon case resulted in a reduced sentence of seven days in jail rather than the potential 19 to 20 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections.
Each incident has followed a similar pattern, with allegations of physical violence and domestic disputes leading to police intervention. The consequences have escalated with each subsequent arrest, suggesting a potentially more severe outcome for this latest charge.
The recurring nature of these incidents has raised concerns among law enforcement and domestic violence advocates, particularly given the severity of the allegations in the most recent case.
Zachery Ty Bryan, once known for his role in the beloved family sitcom "Home Improvement," now faces serious legal consequences in South Carolina following his third domestic violence arrest. The latest incident, involving the mother of his child, resulted in second-degree domestic violence charges after he allegedly attacked her in Myrtle Beach. As Bryan awaits his March 28 court appearance, he faces potential prison time and substantial fines if convicted of the charges.
