A horrifying act of violence shattered the peace at a school in northeastern Brazil, leaving a community in shock and mourning.
According to Daily Mail Online, a 14-year-old student opened fire on his classmates on Friday at Dom Pedro I Municipal School in Heliópolis, Brazil, killing three fellow students before taking his own life.
The Bahia Civil Police identified the shooter as Samuel Andrade, who was sitting at his desk when he began firing at his classmates. The victims, all 15 years old, were named Jonathan dos Santos, Fernanda Gama, and Adriele Ferreira.
Police chief Thiago Cunha stated that authorities are working to determine how Andrade obtained the .38 caliber revolver used in the attack. The shooter's father, interviewed by investigators, claimed he was unaware of how his son accessed the weapon.
Cunha added that the gun was recovered at the scene, but it was too early to determine its ownership. In an effort to uncover a motive, law enforcement officials seized Andrade's cellphone and laptop for further examination.
Remarkably, a teacher and nine other students present in the classroom at the time of the shooting escaped unharmed.
The tragedy has left families struggling to comprehend the senseless loss of young lives. Elisangela de Sousa, mother of victim Fernanda Gama, revealed that the shooter had been friends with her daughter and the other victims.

They were friends, very good friends indeed. In fact, they were at church every Sunday. They were Confirmation students.
In a surprising display of compassion, she added, "Samuel, I don't hate him."
The Bahia state government announced plans to dispatch psychologists and social workers to the school on Monday. Their mission is to provide crucial support to the students and teacher who witnessed the horrific event.
In a joint statement, the Heliópolis municipal government and education department pledged to ensure a "healthy, welcoming and safe" environment for students and staff moving forward. They expressed:
