Kamala Harris Trails Donald Trump in Latest Election Polls

 October 13, 2024

As the U.S. presidential election draws near, Vice President Kamala Harris is facing a challenging race against former President Donald Trump.

Recent polling data indicates that Harris is losing ground to Trump, reversing her previous lead as critical voting demographics swing in favor of the Republican, the New York Post reported.

Sudden Shift in Voter Preferences Upends Race

The shift in voter sentiment is highlighted by an NBC News poll where Harris has lost six percentage points to Trump over the past month.

In a narrow race showing 47% to 46% in Trump's favor, Harris's previous advantage has significantly eroded. Just a month earlier, Harris had been leading Trump, 47% to 41%, in the same poll.

Another close-race indication comes from an ABC News/Ipsos poll that puts Harris ahead with a slight margin of 50% to 48%. Concurring with these findings, the CBS News/YouGov poll also reflects a slender lead for Harris with a national advantage of 51% to 48%. However, in battleground states, her lead is a precarious 50% to 49%.

Referring to the national trends, political journalist Mark Halperin shared his insights:

There are lots of Republicans — I say lots — a not insignificant number of Republicans, who say the race is effectively over, and there are a lot of really worried Democrats and there are really no worried Republicans, including at Mar-a-Lago.

Polling on Key Issues Favors Trump

Poll results on specific issues present another layer of challenges for the Harris campaign. Trump leads over Harris in the sectors of the economy, inflation, immigration, and handling conflicts in the Middle East. Conversely, Harris holds an edge in policies related to abortion, support for the middle class, and the safeguarding of democracy.

These polls contrast starkly with internal Democratic polling, which shows Harris trailing in critical swing states like Wisconsin and Michigan. This is a significant backward trend, considering Harris previously led in the polls.

Such developments spark concern among Democrats, reinforcing the pressure on Harris's campaign as key states appear to be slipping from their grasp.

Republican Confidence Surges as Election Nears

The growing Republican confidence is palpable, inferred from frequent comments about the election’s foregone conclusions. This sentiment is echoed strongly in Republican circles, indicating a buoyant mood about Trump's prospects.

On October 13, reports surfaced detailing these declining numbers for Harris, emphasizing the urgency perceived by many Democrats.

Her campaign continues to make strides, including a recent event at Pitt-Greenville Airport in North Carolina, seeking to garner support and shift the tide of the election in her favor.

In conclusion, the political landscape for Vice President Kamala Harris has grown increasingly complicated as the election approaches. With the slipping numbers in swing states and key issues, combined with a reverse in polling leads, the upcoming weeks are crucial for her campaign strategy. Supporters remain hopeful, yet cautious, as they push for every possible advantage in this tight race.
