Walz Defends Freebies for Migrants on ‘Fox News Sunday’

 October 7, 2024

We just found out why Democrats don’t like to go on Fox News for interviews.

Governor Tim Walz made the mistake of appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” and I am sure he regrets it today.

Walz Talks Up Freebies for Migrants

Considering everything that is happening in this country right now regarding hurricane season, funding that has been diverted to migrants is a major point of concentration for conservatives. Governor Tim Walz appeared on Fox News this weekend and walked right into the Lion’s den.

Host Shannon Bream went right after Walz for all the programs he has in Minnesota that benefit illegal immigrants who have not paid a red cent into taxes. Bream asked him about programs for “drivers licenses, qualify for free tuition at state universities, and enroll in the state’s free healthcare program for low-income residents.” She inquired if all those programs are only drawing in more illegal immigrants to his state, giving them the incentive to cross the border illegally. Walz replied:

“That’s not the vice president’s position but I will say this: Minnesota ranks as a top five business state, we rank as a top three state for children living, and we are the top state for healthcare access. I would also add this, we have some of the safest roads.

“The vice president has made it clear she has policies that make a difference. Her border policies are the most strongest and fairest we have seen.”

Notice how he immediately tried to deflect away from Kamala Harris because he knows what the temperature in this nation is right now on that front.

What About American Citizens?

Panic was created by Secretary Mayorkas last week when he told the media that FEMA does not have funds for another hurricane. He stated:

“We are expecting another hurricane hitting. We do not have the funds.  FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season and what — what is imminent.”

FEMA has used funds for what Mayorkas called “humanitarian” relief for the migrant crisis, but he was not specific as to which funds at the time. This, of course, led to the GOP attacking Mayorkas for using FEMA funds for migrants when it was needed here for relief efforts. This led to FEMA stating:

“No money is being diverted from disaster response needs. FEMA’s disaster response efforts and individual assistance is funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, which is a dedicated fund for disaster efforts. Disaster Relief Fund money has not been diverted to other, non-disaster related efforts.”

The disaster relief fund is different from what FEMA used for the migrant crisis. The money used to benefit migrants was related to the Shelter and Services Program. However, I think most Americans would agree that had the agency not spent nearly $1 billion on migrants, some of that money could have been diverted to relief efforts rather than needing to have more money approved by Congress for relief efforts.

Analysis

This was a complete set-up by Mayorkas. He knew the moment he made that statement that the GOP was going to run with it, and they did.  To me, however, it does not matter whether actual relief funds or other agency funds were used or diverted for migrant use. The fact those funds were used for anything other than benefitting taxpayers is infuriating to me. This is not an endless spigot of money, even though Dems treat it that way. At what point does this administration say that we cannot continue to allow people into this country incapable of supporting themselves? It’s as if they want the entire country to become a welfare state.
