A Florida senator points fingers at Democratic leaders for potentially inspiring a recent attempt on former President Trump's life.
According to Fox News, Senator Marco Rubio, R-Fla., has accused Democrats of using inflammatory language that may have influenced the suspect involved in the latest incident at Trump International Golf Course in Palm Beach County, Florida.
Rubio expressed his concerns during an appearance on "America's Newsroom," where he criticized the rhetoric used by prominent Democrats, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The senator suggested that repeatedly comparing Trump to dictators like Hitler or Mussolini could potentially motivate unstable individuals to take drastic actions.
Rubio elaborated on his stance, emphasizing the potential consequences of such charged language. He argued that while most people might simply vote against a candidate portrayed in such a negative light, there's a risk that some individuals could interpret these messages as a call to action.
The senator stated:
If you repeatedly say someone is going to be the next Adolf Hitler or the next Mussolini… you eventually have to conclude that the overwhelming majority of people that see that are going to say, 'We better vote against this guy,' but there are enough lunatics and nutjobs out there who are going to take the next step and say, 'Well, this guy is truly evil, this guy is truly dangerous. If our democracy and our system of government is going to be wiped out if this guy wins, I need to take this guy out.'
Rubio's comments came in the wake of the incident involving Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, who was arrested for allegedly pointing an AK-47 rifle at the former president during a golf outing.
The Florida senator's criticism extended to recent statements made by Hillary Clinton, who, just a day after the golf course incident, described Trump as "a danger to our country and the world." Clinton's comments, made during a public appearance, suggested that Trump's rhetoric was responsible for inciting unrest.
Rubio also referenced similar statements made by other prominent Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden. These leaders have consistently characterized Trump as a "threat to democracy," urging voters to rally against his potential return to office.
In response to the recent incident, Trump himself weighed in on the matter. Speaking to Fox News Digital, the former president placed blame on the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, stating that the suspect "believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, and he acted on it."
This incident marks the second apparent assassination attempt on Trump within a two-month span. The previous attempt occurred in July when a gunman opened fire at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
