Oregon Nurse Found Dead After Disappearance, Neighbor Faces Murder Charge

 September 8, 2024

An Oregon community reels following the tragic death of a newlywed nurse just days after her return from her honeymoon. After Melissa Jubane, 32, a dedicated healthcare professional, failed to report to work, authorities found her deceased, igniting a frantic search.

Authorities discovered Melissa Jubane deceased after she failed to attend her nursing shift, and they arrested her neighbor Bryce Johnathan Schubert for her murder, the New York Post reported.

Miss Jubane, who served at Providence St. Vincent's Hospital in Southwest Portland, Oregon, did not appear for her shift on September 4, sparking concerns over her whereabouts. She had recently returned from her wedding in Haleiwa, O'ahu, Honolulu with Bryan Llantero, whom she married on August 24.

Detailed Search Leads to Heartbreaking Discovery

Neighbors and local community members launched a search lasting three days. Subsequently, the Beaverton Police performed a wellness check, which led them to discover Jubane's remains days after her disappearance.

Authorities then took Bryce Johnathan Schubert, 27, Jubane's neighbor and a former nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center, into custody on the evening of September 6. He now faces charges of second-degree murder in connection with her death.

This arrest followed an extensive investigation by the police, which involved reviewing phone, bank, and credit records.

Despite these efforts, no leads surfaced until further probing pointed to Schubert. However, the exact nature of the evidence that implicated him has not been disclosed.

Community and Colleague Grief Overwhelming

Providence St. Vincent Hospital where Jubane worked issued a statement expressing their devastation and mourning over the loss of a beloved staff member. "Our hearts are broken at the news of the death of our Providence St. Vincent nurse and colleague, Melissa Jubane. This comes as a shock to us all and she is mourned by her co-workers. Melissa was an exceptional nurse. We appreciate all the expressions of concern from the community. Melissa was a person of Providence, and we will miss her," the hospital shared.

Zachary Horton, a co-worker of Melissa, expressed his sorrow on Facebook:

You will be missed by all. Rest in peace you sweet wonderful person. May your family find solace in the coming weeks and years. I’m completely taken by what has happened, but I’m so relieved that we found you; that the question of, where did you go, did not go unanswered.

Jubane and Llantero had dated over a decade before their engagement last year, recently visiting Washington State to celebrate Labor Day with her family. Upon returning, Jubane stayed in her apartment near her workplace.

Police Praise Community's Support in Search Efforts

In the face of this tragic event, the Beaverton Police Department acknowledged the community's efforts. Consequently, they extended their profound gratitude and condolences through a social media post. "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community members who have assisted with the search for Melissa. Our deepest condolences go out to Melissa’s family, friends, and coworkers."

As the investigation into Jubane's death continues, the police and legal proceedings against Bryce Johnathan Schubert progress. Meanwhile, the community mourns the tragic loss of a nurse who devoted her life to caring for others.

In the wake of this tragedy, family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues all seek closure and justice for Melissa Jubane, who experienced an abrupt end to her life shortly after celebrating one of her happiest milestones.
