Walz Caught Telling Another Lie About Military Service

 August 23, 2024

Since Governor Tim Walz was introduced as Harris’ VP choice, we have realized that he is a pathological liar.

This is especially true regarding his military record, and he just got caught again.

Talking Points…
- Walz military lies
- GOP goes on the attack
- Analysis

Walz Keeps Telling Lies

Tim Walz served in the National Guard for more than two decades. He retired as a Sergeant Major, ran for Congress, won, and then became the governor of Minnesota. That record should be enough, but the man just keeps lying about various aspects of his service.

For instance, he has been saying that he retired as a Command Sergeant Major for years, but that was not the case. He was given the rank conditionally, but he retired before he met the conditions and completed the required classroom work, so the rank was pulled back, and he was demoted back to Sergeant Major right before he retired.

It was also revealed that Walz retired after finding out that his unit was likely to be deployed to an active war zone. To add insult to injury, Walz, while never serving in a war zone, had been caught on video saying that he carried a weapon of war, hinting that he had served in an active war zone. Walz also gave a speech talking about his time in the Guard, then quickly segued to discuss standing on the tarmac at Bagram, again hinting that he served in Bagram, but that was also a lie. The trip to Bagram was a congressional trip, not when he was in the Guard.

Now, yet another report has surfaced about Walz lying about having re-enlisted when he could have retired after 9/11. Walz’s 20 years for full retirement was not eligible until August 3, 2002, so Walz again lied. Walz had stated:

"It was — the notice as I said came in early 2003, I think many of us after September 11 — my 20 years was actually, ironically enough, up that week of September 11, 2001, of the time that I had off and made up, so I re-enlisted, like I think the vast majority of people did.

“A real sense of uncertainty of what was going to — but a real sense of wanting to do something. I think many of us in those early days — that sense of Afghanistan and the Taliban and where that, you know, that attack came from. [Emphasis added].”

GOP Goes on the Attack

Again, to be clear, nobody is attacking Walz’s service, but they are attacking how he has portrayed his service. This should be a bragging point for Walz, but his lies have turned this into an attack point for the GOP. To that point, a group of GOP veterans penned a letter to Walz calling him out, stating:

“You have stated that you are ‘damn proud’ of your service, and like any American veteran, you should be. But there is no honor in lying about the nature of your service.”

“…You have violated the trust of our brothers and sisters in arms. Their blood, sweat, and sacrifice are the only reason our nation is able to exist. Until you admit you lied to them, there is no way you can be trusted to serve as Vice President.”

Analysis

Walz responded by saying that he was “proud” of his service and that he had every right to be. But again, why lie about what you did to enhance your record when everyone would have respected more than two decades of service? It just makes no sense to lie about it.

The media and Democrats are trying to make Walz out to be a victim now, but he is hardly the victim here. He did not misspeak, as his surrogates have been saying. He has been telling this lie for over a decade, and one that he could have owned up to and corrected right from the start, but now he wants to play the victim. The man is a pathological liar, and there is no way he can be trusted.
