A former student has accused Minnesota Governor Tim Walz of being a "true believer" in Mao Zedong's communist ideology during his time as a high school teacher.
The allegations, reported by The Post Millennial, claim that Walz expressed admiration for communist China during a 1995 trip to the country.
The student, identified only as "Shad," told Alpha News that Walz frequently purchased copies of Mao's "Little Red Book" during their visit to China. These accusations have sparked controversy and led to calls for an investigation into Walz's connections to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
According to Shad, Walz's admiration for the communist regime was evident throughout their trip to China. The former student claimed that Walz would often buy copies of Mao's "Little Red Book" as souvenirs, comparing it to purchasing "Mein Kampf" in Germany. Shad stated:
It was almost a daily revelation of how much he adores the communist regime. At night, we'd go out, we'd walk the street fairs. We'd be buying souvenirs and Tim was always buying the Little Red Book. He said he gave them as gifts … I saw him buy at least a dozen on the trip.
The allegations suggest that Walz's interest in communist ideology extended beyond mere curiosity and into genuine support for the political system.
Tim Walz reportedly visited China numerous times over a decade, initially as part of a Harvard University program. His first trip to China occurred in 1989, coinciding with the Tiananmen Square protests, although he was in Hong Kong at the time of the government crackdown.
Despite the violent suppression of student demonstrators, Walz allegedly continued to praise China upon his return home. In a symbolic gesture, he chose to marry his wife, Gwen Whipple, on the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre.
Shad, the former student, drew parallels between Walz's alleged communist sympathies and his current policies as governor of Minnesota. He pointed to what he considers extreme abortion laws, anti-free speech measures, and the handling of riots as evidence of Walz's communist leanings.
The accuser also highlighted similarities between Walz and Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris's messaging and Maoist propaganda. Shad emphasized the need for public awareness, stating, "People need to have their eyes wide open." These allegations have caught the attention of prominent Republican figures, including House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Senator Tom Cotton.
In response to these allegations, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has called for an investigation into Walz's "longstanding connections to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) entities and officials." Shad claims to have contributed a report to Comer's office regarding his experiences with Walz in China.
Senator Tom Cotton has also weighed in on the matter, stating that Walz "owes the American people an explanation about his unusual, 35-year relationship with Communist China," according to Alpha News.
A spokesman for Walz's office defended the governor's record, stating that he has consistently stood up to the CCP, fought for human rights and democracy, and prioritized American jobs and manufacturing throughout his career. The statement dismissed the allegations as attempts to distract from other political agendas.
