Harris And Walz Advocate For Immigration Amnesty And Security

 August 9, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris selects Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for the upcoming presidential race.

Both politicians share a strong stance on providing amnesty and a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants, a cornerstone of their campaign, Fox News reported.

In 2021, Governor Tim Walz, fresh off his selection as Vice President Harris’ vice presidential candidate, had already been a vocal advocate for immigration amnesty. He addressed a letter to key legislative leaders, pushing for illegal immigrants' citizenship. These included essential workers, Dreamers, and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders.

Governor Walz emphasized the importance of integrating these groups into American society, citing their significant contributions, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. "Dreamers and TPS holders have enriched and strengthened Minnesota’s cities, schools, businesses, congregations, and families," Walz noted, calling for bipartisan congressional action to secure their status permanently.

Focused Campaign Efforts on Immigration Reform

Harris has also been proactive on immigration issues throughout her tenure, prioritizing it in her presidential campaign. Despite earlier setbacks faced by the Biden administration, where a comprehensive immigration bill was blocked by Republicans, Harris continues to advocate for legislative reforms.

Rome was not built in a day, and neither is policy reform regarding border security geared to be loosened in managing illegal immigration. This is evident in Harris's campaign, where she seeks to strengthen border security, a pivot from the initially softer stance at the start of the Biden administration.

From day one, advocating for reform was central to Harris’ role in the current administration. "From day one, when we first came in office, our first bill was to offer a meaningful way to fix our immigration system," Harris said at a rally.

Salient Shifts Toward Strengthening Border Security

Vice President Harris has proposed significant enhancements to border security measures. In her campaign promises, she has outlined plans to employ thousands more border agents and intensify efforts against drug and human trafficking.

She expressed her resolve, noting that improving border security will be tough but essential. “Fixing the border is tough. So is Kamala Harris," she proclaimed, aligning her resilience with the challenges of border management.

The synergy between Harris and Walz on immigration is notably geared towards combining humanitarian concern with pragmatic governance. They advocate for a systematic approach that not only promises a secured border but also respects the human element inherent in immigration issues.

Building a Cooperative Legislative Framework

In alignment with their vision, Harris and Walz have repeatedly emphasized the need for congressional cooperation on immigration reform. They stress the overall benefits of a secure yet compassionate immigration policy, which accounts for both humanitarian and economic aspects.

As Governor, Walz supported sanctuary policies and services for illegal immigrants, fostering an environment of safety and growth for all residents regardless of their original nationality. This inclination towards sanctuary principles aligns with the broader themes of the Harris-Walz campaign.

In summation, the Harris-Walz ticket presents a comprehensive plan addressing the complex facets of immigration. They vow to overhaul existing systems, focusing on humane treatment and rigorous border security, while pushing for legislative action that acknowledges and addresses the contributions of immigrants to American society.
