Speaker Johnson Planning 20-state Blitz After Harris VP Announcement

 August 6, 2024

Republicans have a paper-thin margin in the House right now, and with Harris now announcing her VP decision, Speaker Johnson (R-LA) plans to kill her momentum with a 20-state barnstorming tour.

Johnson will tour key battleground states to ensure that Republicans hold the House and offset any momentum that Harris may gain with her VP announcement.

Harris Names VP After Winning Nomination

This morning, Kamala Harris named the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, as her vice president. This was a stunning development, as PA Governor Josh Shapiro was the no-brainer choice for Harris. The only drawback in the eyes of Democrats for Shapiro is that he is Jewish, which some party members were worried would turn off the far left in the party that is anti-Israel.

With Walz, Harris is getting the governor of a state with one of the largest Muslim populations in the country, who are clearly anti-Israel. This is the home state of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who despises Israel and has supported Palestine while pushing Hamas talking points throughout this conflict between Israel and Hamas. The Trump campaign obliterated Walz and Harris, stating:

"It's no surprise that San Francisco Liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast wannabe Tim Walz as her running-mate – Walz has spent his governorship trying to reshape Minnesota in the image of the Golden State. While Walz pretends to support Americans in the Heartland, when the cameras are off, he believes that rural America is 'mostly cows and rocks.'

"From proposing his own carbon-free agenda, to suggesting stricter emission standards for gas-powered cars, and embracing policies to allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is obsessed with spreading California's dangerously liberal agenda far and wide. If Walz won't tell voters the truth, we will: just like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is a dangerously liberal extremist, and the Harris-Walz California dream is every American's nightmare."

Johnson Barnstorming Tour

Now that Harris has named Walz, the GOP needs to move to offset this momentum and generate some excitement for the upcoming election. Speaker Johnson will do that by going on a massive tour to promote the GOP agenda. Among the states that Johnson will visit on his 20-state blitz are Wisconsin, Arizona, Ohio, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Virginia, and Connecticut.

On the tour and the election, Johnson stated:

"House Republicans are on offense to grow our majority from coast to coast. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris wrecked our economy, opened our border, and invited chaos and wars around the world.

"I look forward to meeting with Americans across our country and contrasting Harris' disastrous and radical record with common sense, pro-growth, and America First policies that Republicans will reinstate when we grow the majority, flip the Senate, and win the White House."

Harris will also be doing a tour of her own among battleground states. She is slated to visit Pennsylvania today and then continue on to Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada. Johnson has already started to attack Harris, stating:

"As President Trump has said, he was, they had sort of prepared in the mindset that they would run against Biden, but it doesn't matter. I mean, if they put Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket, she's the co-owner of all the policies. It's not any better.

"It doesn't matter who they run. Anybody that they would put in that place. This election is not about personalities — it's about policies and what it means to people."

Analysis

This is an excellent move by Johnson to steal some momentum away from Harris and her campaign. Johnson has also quelled the worries about his fundraising skills, as he has become a natural, already raising a staggering amount of cash for the party and Donald Trump's re-election campaign.

Harris handed the GOP a gift with Walz, and I am sure Johnson will exploit that on his tour. Dems will downplay this man's past, but he is just as dangerous as Harris in terms of pandering to the far left. Trust me, you don't get to be the governor of Minnesota unless you are appeasing the radicals in the party. I have never been happier about being wrong, as I believed Shapiro would have made this a true toss-up. With Walz, there is no excuse for Trump not to win this election.
