After Biden dropped out of the presidential race, most people assumed the torch would be passed to Kamala Harris.
However, there appear to be some obstacles in her way, most notably rumors of Senator Joe Manchin (I-W.V.) running as a Democrat and Barack Obama's lack of endorsement, at least to this point.
Talking Points…
- Manchin is reportedly considering a run
- No endorsement by Barack Obama
- Analysis
Earlier this year, Senator Manchin changed his registration as an independent, leaving the Democrat Party. However, with Biden dropping out, reports are flying that Manchin is considering re-registering as a Democrat and tossing his name into the hat for the suspected open convention the Democrats will hold in August. Manchin was among those advocating for Joe Biden to step down, recently stating:
"I came to the decision with a heavy heart that I think it's time to pass the torch to a new generation.
"I want him to be the president in the last five months of this presidency of his term, to do what he can do is unite our country, to calm down the rhetoric and be able to focus attention to peace in the world."
Rumors immediately started to fly that even though Manchin had mentioned names like Governor Beshear and Shapiro, he was very strongly considering a run himself. This would put a big wrench into Kamala's plans because Manchin is quite popular among Democrats, and the perception of him being more moderate would likely attract more support than Harris.
A second problem for Harris is that while Obama welcomed Biden stepping down, he did not immediately endorse Harris as the nominee. The liberal horde generally follows whatever Obama feeds them, so the fact that he is not yet endorsing her says quite a bit. In announcing his support for Biden's decision and trying to make Biden out to be some national hero for having deceived the American voter, Obama stated:
"We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead.
"But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges."
Do you know why they are unchartered? No party has ever lied to voters about the mental standing of a candidate, run a test campaign, and then pulled the candidate because they were behind in polling. This is about as undemocratic as it gets, but Dems are trying to sell this as what is best for the country. And trust me, if the GOP did this, the media would be flipping out right now.
This hurts Harris because she already has the support of several high-profile Democrats, including Bill and Hillary Clinton. However, Obama is the party's kingmaker, so it had to be a crushing blow to Harris for Obama not to back her right out of the gate. However, I know why he is doing this.
Obama is trying to make this seem normal, as though the voters still have a say in this, but they do not. This now all comes down to who the electors choose at the convention, which will now be open since Biden was already voted for in the primary race and is now withdrawing from consideration.
This is the party trying to rig an election for its preferred candidate. To add insult to injury, Dems can now put together the best possible ticket to defeat Trump and Vance in November because they have the benefit of all the polling to this point. From what I have seen, the best ticket for Dems is Harris and Shapiro, so I would be surprised if it is anything but, with the only real question being if Shapiro is willing to put his name on a ticket with Harris, which is definitely not automatic.
Regardless of how all this plays out, remember the Democrat Party pulled a fast one on the American people. They all said that Joe Biden was their guy, that he was mentally fine, and that only because he bombed the debate and he was losing every battleground state did they decide they no longer wanted him as their candidate. There is NOTHING more undemocratic than taking the vote out of the hands of the American people, and that is precisely what Democrats have just done.
