Democrats Shape Primary for Biden, Stirring Controversy

 July 22, 2024

President Joe Biden's upcoming exit as the presumptive Democratic nominee marks a significant shift in political strategy.

Critics claim the Democratic National Committee paved an easier path for Biden's nomination despite doubts about his capability, Breitbart News reported.

At the heart of this situation was the adjustment of the Democratic primary calendar in December 2022. At the request of President Joe Biden, the traditional order was reshuffled — moving South Carolina to the forefront as the first state to vote, a change believed to favor Biden who previously garnered a key victory there in 2020.

Primary Calendar Reshuffle Raises Eyebrows

This amendment was aimed at better reflecting the diverse demographics of the party's constituents, according to President Biden, who emphasized the need for the early states to "reflect the overall diversity of our party and our nation – economically, geographically, demographically."

However, not everyone saw this change as purely strategic or reflective. Robert F Kennedy Jr., a vocal critic of the administration, accused the Democratic establishment of laying a tailor-made path for Biden’s uncontested nomination by canceling debates and rearranging traditional voting states.

According to polls and public opinion, there was growing concern over Biden's mental fitness and his age, yet the primary contests unfolded with little substantial competition from other candidates. Biden won each contest he entered, sending a strong message about his dominance in the primaries.

Controversy Over DNC's Decisions

The discussion reached a boiling point when critics pointed out the apparent inconsistency between the DNC's actions and democratic principles. Representative Carlos Giménez noted the irony in the situation:

They're all frazzled now because they say that we were a threat to democracy, and yet, hey, they’re trying to find a way to somehow get rid of their democratically nominated presidential candidate. So isn’t that something? Who’s really the threat to democracy here?

The DNC's approach to the nomination process has led to speculation that Vice President Kamala Harris could be gearing up for the nomination despite not receiving an endorsement from influential figures such as former President Barack Obama, who remained neutral yet optimistic about the party’s future leadership.

Kennedy's Call for Transparency

Amid the unfolding drama, Robert F Kennedy Jr. remained a staunch opponent of what he viewed as manipulative tactics by the DNC elites:

We declare independence from the cynical elites who betray our hope and who amplify our divisions. And finally, we declare independence from the two political parties.

The issue at hand now moves to the Democratic National Convention, where delegates will have the final say. This moves away from the earlier primary results, potentially ignoring the voters' preferences expressed through the primaries.

The reshuffle of the primary calendar and the handling of the entire nomination process have spurred a wide range of reactions—from concerns over integrity in the electoral process to debates about the best approach to reflect the party’s diversity and strength.

In conclusion, the alignment and subsequent disarray within the Democratic party highlight a complex interplay of strategy, demographic considerations, and internal politics that could influence future electoral strategies and party dynamics. This scenario has reaffirmed the need for transparency and adherence to democratic principles as the party seeks to navigate these tumultuous waters.
