Navy Sailor Tried to View President Joe Biden's Private Medical Records

 July 10, 2024

A junior sailor in the Navy recently faced administrative actions for trying to access President Joe Biden's medical records without authorization.

According to ABC News, a Navy sailor earnestly sought to pry into President Joe Biden's confidential medical information in February.

On February 23, 2024, the sailor stationed at NMRTC Fort Belvoir attempted to use the MHS Genesis system to look up "Joseph Biden." The military health system employs this electronic health record system, which is designed to be secure and confidential.

Curiosity Led to Privacy Breach Attempt

The sailor's multiple attempts to violate privacy regulations were detected, and another co-worker reported the situation. This led to swift actions by Navy authorities, who ensured a thorough investigation of this significant breach.

According to a statement released by the US Navy, "Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Fort Belvoir was informed of an unauthorized attempt by an active-duty service member to access medical records."

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) undertook a detailed investigation, which began shortly after the breach was reported and concluded on April 24, 2024. The probe affirmed that the sailor never actually succeeded in viewing President Biden's medical details.

Response and Consequences of Breach

Though the sailor’s breach was serious, the investigation results concluded that administrative punishment was adequate. The sailor remains actively serving in the Navy. Importantly, this incident did not influence or relate to President Biden's routine physical at Walter Reed Army Medical Center on February 28, just days after the attempted breach.

As described by Biden's doctor, this physical found him "fit for duty" and identified no new health concerns, signaling the president's stable health condition.

Responding immediately to the breach, a White Moon House official said, "The president was informed within hours of White House staff being notified by the Department of Defense."

President Unfazed by Incident

Meanwhile, President Biden has shown no public concern regarding the attempted breach of his medical records. On the day of his physical, he even addressed reporters, "I'm going to Walter Reed to get my physical," underscoring his ongoing commitment to transparency about his health.

The Navy and the Department of Defense have taken this incident seriously, ensuring that all necessary protocols are re-evaluated to prevent such breaches in the future.

Continued Vigilance in Data Protection

This scenario casts a spotlight on the importance of safeguarding personal information, even at the highest levels of government. It emphasizes the constant need for vigilance and stringent security measures within all sectors handling sensitive data.

In conclusion, though the attempted breach did not result in any compromise of President Biden's medical records, it alerted White House and naval officials to potential vulnerabilities. Actions taken post-incident demonstrate a proactive stance in ensuring that privacy rights are strictly enforced and that all personnel adhere to the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
