Trump Drops Hint on VP Who and When

 July 10, 2024

Donald Trump has finally broken his silence on when he will pick his VP.

The list also appears to be narrowed down to four individuals.

Talking Points….
- The when
- The who
- Analysis

The When

By the time the convention is over, we will find out who Donald Trump's vice president is. Trump initially stated that he would announce his vice president during the convention. It now appears that he will announce the vice president selection a few days before the convention starts.

When Trump was asked about the VP announcement, he stated:

"I'd love to do it during the convention," but "my people say that's a little complicated.

"Probably a little before the convention, but not much. It could even be during the convention that we'd do it."

Now, I am almost certain that the VP pick has to be in before the convention nomination because the VP also needs to be certified. Regardless, we will finally know the pick next week.

The Who

Fox News' Sean Hannity gave Trump four names as contenders for the slot. Hannity mentioned Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida, JD Vance of Ohio, and Tim Scott of South Carolina, as well as North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.

When Hannity asked if this was Trump's shortlist, he stated:

"The names that you mentioned, absolutely they're under consideration."

Trump being Trump, he had to keep a little mystery about the selection, so he added:

"I haven't made a final decision, but I have some ideas as to where we're going."

Trust me on this one. Trump has made the decision, and he knows exactly who he wants on this ticket. The only reason he has not announced the person is that he is trying to save the story for when he needs to flip a negative news cycle. Right now, Biden is dominating headlines regarding his mental decline, and Trump is rightfully not getting in the way of the runaway train in the media that is hammering Biden on this front.

Analysis

Even though Trump has these four names in his final list, realistically, this is now between Senator J.D. Vance and Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.). I prefer Tim Scott, but I feel Vance may be in the lead now based on recent appearances. I really don't object to either of them, I just happen to think that Scott would benefit Trump more when it comes to grabbing more votes on election day. However, I have every faith that Scott will work tirelessly for Trump whether he is the VP or not because if he is not VP, he will likely hold a high-ranking Cabinet position.
