WaPo Editorial Board Publishes Biden Withdrawal Speech

 July 5, 2024

Joe Biden has been facing serious pressure from quite a few mainstream media outlets to step down and allow someone else to run against Trump since the debate.

The Washington Post took it to another level, however, publishing a mock withdrawal speech for Biden.

Talking Points…

Panic Strikes the Left

Normally, the media covers for Joe Biden, and that is why there is so much panic on the left right now. For the last three-plus years, the media has been covering for Biden rather than covering Biden. It even got to the point that after the GOP aired attack ads against Biden's gaffes, the White House invented a new category of video called "cheap fakes," where they claimed the GOP was taking content out of context.

How you can take a fall or a brain freeze out of context, I have no idea, but the media ran with the talking point so it could blast Republicans and Fox News, as well as other right-leaning publications. It was pathetic. After the debate, however, there was no more covering up, so now the media has flipped the switch, and along with a growing number of Democrats, they are asking Biden to step down.

Among the outlets calling for Biden to step down is The New York Times, which, in part, wrote:

"At Thursday's debate, the president needed to convince the American public that he was equal to the formidable demands of the office he is seeking to hold for another term.

"Voters, however, cannot be expected to ignore what was instead plain to see: Mr. Biden is not the man he was four years ago."

Joining The New York Times is The New Yorker, The Economist, Chicago Tribune, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and now, The Washington Post.

Biden Mock Withdrawal Speech

The Economist and The Washington Post were the most original of all the calls to have Biden step down. The Economist posted a picture of a presidential walker, but The Washington Post decided to supply Biden with a withdrawal speech.

In part, the speech reads:

"They knew, too, that relying on a single individual, a king, might create the illusion of strength but would be at its core fragile. Over the past few days, I have been reflecting on all this. My season of service is nearing its close. This was a hard truth to face. But it is the natural course of things — as evident as the progression from spring to summer, from fall to winter.

"This is why I have decided to withdraw from the campaign for president of the United States."

It continues:

"The Democratic National Committee, senior Democratic leaders and I have agreed on an orderly process to select our next nominee, which will include debates between now and our convention in August.

"My vice president, Kamala Harris, has graciously and courageously agreed to participate. Though Democratic primary voters cannot be included at this late date, their delegates will make the final choice."

It concludes:

"Americans, I invite you to search your soul as I have. Are we so unsure of ourselves that we will empower a would-be king, one who has been given expansive powers by an activist Supreme Court?

"Or will we look back on Washington's example, in the spring of American life, and recognize that our independence is built on service, sacrifice, a willingness to assume the best in one another and the belief there will be better seasons to come?"

Analysis

It is good to see the media finally calling an apple an apple, but this is still a bit disturbing when you think about this. I mean, a major media outlet has actually formed a graceful exit for a struggling Democrat candidate to try to help the Democrat Party defeat Donald Trump in the general election. They are literally trying to dictate who runs for office, and that, my friends, is not journalism.
