REPORT: Meghan Markle ‘Taking Over’ Invictus Games

 April 5, 2024

There seems to be a bit of an uprising across the pond over the reported ouster of Prince Harry.

Reports are stating that Meghan is going to "take over" the lead role for the Invictus Games, which was traditionally the role of Prince Harry.

The Founding of the Invictus Games

The games were founded in 2014 by Prince Harry to have athletic events for wounded, injured, or sick members of their respective services. Harry chose the word "Invictus" to head the games because it means "unconquered," a sign of respect for these amazing veterans who compete.

The initial event was put together in only 10 months. During the initial games, Prince Harry stated:

"[The games] demonstrate the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and demonstrate life beyond disability."

The initial games were held in London on September 10, 2014, with 14 nations competing. This event has grown to 22 nations competing in the 2023 games.

Meghan Taking Over

Next month, a 10-year anniversary event for the Invictus Games is being held in London. Everyone would expect this to be Harry's baby since he founded the game. However, reports have stated that Meghan Markle, his wife, plans on taking the lead on the Invictus Games. It was unclear if they were only speaking about the anniversary event or if she plans on taking over the Invictus Games for Harry.

This has created some controversy across the pond for two reasons. First, the obvious is that Meghan is taking over the event, much to the chagrin of fans of the Royals. Second, there were reports that Markle may never come to the UK again, which was not exactly upsetting to fans of the Royals, as she has always been met with a bit of coldness on the other side of the pond. Royal biographer Angela Levin, who has been the source for many of the reports about the issues with the royals recently, told Great Britain News about the changing of the guard, so to speak, for the event. Levin stated:

"She comes over, she does a speech, she does a second speech, she leads people down the paths and the winners, and they say she knows nothing about fighting and going in wars.

"It was Harry's job, and I think they feel quite sorry for him. They're angry."

The site for the 2027 games has not yet been announced, but Levin believes the games could find their way back to London after having not been held there since the inaugural event. Levin commented on that as well, stating:

"I don't think Harry's got anything to look forward to, really. If this happens in the UK, it's going to be very, very difficult for the Royal Family.

"I think it's an extraordinary attitude that Meghan has, she thinks she's better than everyone. She thinks of herself as globally famous."

Analysis

Right now, Harry and Meghan appear to be a couple without a country. They are facing criticism over the pond and they have not exactly been welcomed with open arms since moving to the United States. Harry and Meghan have not helped themselves on that front with the constant drama and rumors about Meghan being upset with the Royal family. I guess we will have to wait to see what happens at this anniversary event to see if Meghan has managed to calm the waters or if she is kicking up another storm.
