Army Intelligence Analyst Arrested

On Thursday, Sergeant Korbein Schultz was arrested after it was discovered that he was selling military secrets to the Chinese. According to the report, Schultz was paid $42,000 for the information.

The sensitive documents detailed the U.S. defense of Taiwan, weapons systems, and missile defense systems. They were reportedly downloaded and sent to an unnamed individual in Hong Kong. The relationship started in June 2022, with Schultz and his co-conspirator communicating via a messaging app.

Schultz is now facing six counts, which include conspiracy and bribery. Schultz had been assigned to the 506th Infantry Battalion.

Department of Justice Statements on Arrest

Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen of the Justice Department's National Security Division announced the arrest, stating:

"Mr. Schultz, a member of the U.S. Army, stands accused of conspiring to obtain and provide national defense information to an individual overseas. As part of the conspiracy, the defendant provided sensitive government information to his co-conspirator in exchange for thousands of dollars, placing personal profit above the security of the American people.

"Today's arrest shows that such a betrayal does not pay — the Department of Justice is committed to identifying and holding accountable those who would break their oath to protect our nation's secrets."

Brigadier General Rhett R. Cox, Commanding General of the Army Counterintelligence Command, added:

"Today's arrest underscores the unwavering commitment of the Army Counterintelligence Command, our partners at the Department of Justice, and the broader intelligence community in safeguarding our Nation's secrets.

"We cannot tolerate any betrayal of trust, and we remain vigilant in our mission to protect national defense information crucial to our security. We encourage all members of the Army team, past or present, to remain vigilant and report any potential suspicious activity."

Analysis

This is now the second major leak of classified military intelligence under this administration. The first was Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira, which also originated in 2022. Teixeira was arrested in April 2023 and recently pleaded guilty.

This administration has taken considerable heat over this because Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was obsessed with rooting out right-wing extremists after January 6, 2021, as he called them when taking over as Secretary of Defense. Somehow, while digging through the ranks for those extremists, Austin missed the traitors who were operating in our military.

When you add these two security failures to the "woke" agenda that Austin has introduced to our military, as well as his blatant failure to report his illness and transfer of powers during a hospital stay that the White House was not informed of until after the fact, it seems clear that Secretary Austin is not capable of handling his duties. It would be quite surprising if Republicans do not make a big push to have him relieved of his duties after this security failure and yet another black eye on the Pentagon and this administration.
