20 Disneyland Guests Rescued After Roller Coaster Malfunction

 July 2, 2024

On a sunny Sunday afternoon in Anaheim, California, adventure turned into concern at Disneyland’s California Adventure Park.

According to Fox News, a group of 20 visitors was stuck atop the Incredicoaster, leading to a rescue operation that lasted over an hour.

The incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. when the popular roller coaster suffered a technical malfunction, leaving the riders stranded at its highest point, approximately 120 feet above the ground. The outdoor temperature, hovering around 83 degrees Fahrenheit, added discomfort to the already anxious guests.

Park Guests Rescued from Stranded Ride

To mitigate the effects of the harsh sun, park staff swiftly provided umbrellas for shade while skilled rescue workers equipped with safety harnesses prepared to escort each guest to safety.

Vince Crandon, a park visitor, expressed his initial confusion and concern about the situation. “I thought maybe the ride was closed,” Crandon said. “I was really concerned for the heat and obviously for the people ... it was not moving and was on top of the apex.”

Local media, including OC Hawk, captured the rescue team’s efforts to ensure the safety and comfort of the stranded individuals, providing on-ground coverage of the event.

Witnesses and park officials remained communicative throughout the ordeal, ensuring that all those affected were informed about the steps to resolve the situation.

The Incredicoaster, known for being the fastest roller coaster in California owned by Disney, boasts a notable history and theme based on Pixar’s “The Incredibles.” Renamed from California Screamin’ in 2018, the ride underwent seasonal refurbishment in March of the same year to maintain its safety and operational standards.

Roller Coaster History and Maintenance

According to a report from a park guest, there were potential issues with the coaster as early as Saturday, suggesting possible prior indications of a malfunction.

Despite the recent maintenance, the exact cause of Sunday’s incident was not immediately determined, and the ride was closed temporarily for further investigation to prevent any future occurrences.

Disneyland has assured its visitors that it is revising and enhancing its maintenance protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future, focusing on safeguarding the well-being of its guests.

Conclusion

Thousands flock annually to the Incredicoaster, enticed by its exhilarating speed and innovative design. However, the recent malfunction on Sunday highlights the critical need for ongoing maintenance and strict supervision of amusement rides.

Theme parks are adored globally, and although such incidents are uncommon, they emphasize the importance of rigorous maintenance and prioritizing guest safety. The prompt and transparent handling of the situation by the park staff has strengthened the trust and safety felt by visitors, which is essential for enjoying these thrilling attractions.
